The Caped Crusader, Gotham’s Watchful Protector, the World’s Greatest Detective – Bob Kane and Bill Finger’s masked vigilante is known by many names, but in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, he was most commonly referred to as The Dark Knight. And what a Dark Knight he was.

Former American Pyscho star Christian Bale was officially unveiled as the seventh incarnation of Batman in 2005, and later headlined two of the best comic book movies ever made: The Dark Knight and its slightly less impressive follow-up, The Dark Knight Rises.

But thanks to Nolan’s penchant for realism, The Dark Knight Trilogy will always be held in high regard by Batman fans, and after almost a decade spent in the cape and cowl, Christian Bale has now been reflecting on his time as Gotham’s Caped Crusader.

Just the other week, for instance, he spoke about how he actually had mixed emotions about the role, as it placed him under such an intense spotlight. Now, the actor’s revealed something even more interesting, saying that he can’t even watch The Dark Knight Trilogy anymore, due to the Aurora shooting.

“Very sadly, I have not been able to watch that film since because of the whole tragedy of Aurora. I have not been able to sit down and see it without thinking of that. I’d love to be able to, one day.”

For those who don’t remember, the tragedy Bale refers to here took place on July 20th, 2012 at a movie theater in Colorado that was screening The Dark Knight Rises. During the film, “a gunman, dressed in tactical clothing, set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms. Twelve people were killed and 70 others were injured.” As such, it’s definitely understandable that the actor has trouble revisiting Nolan’s Batman films, and we’re sure that he’s not the only one.

In related news, The Dark Knight Trilogy is now on Ultra HD Blu-ray thanks to a newly-released Christoper Nolan collection, which is available to order off Amazon.
