Mark Muñoz started his career at the age of 13. He participated in the varsity team of Vallejo High School, and received numerous accolades such as two-time State Champion, Asics First Team All-American, National High School Champion in 1995, and 1996 NHSCA National High School Champion.
Then, he got silver medal for the USA Junior National Team, and placed fifth during the FILA Junior World Wrestling Championship in 1996. And while Munoz studying at the Oklahoma State University, he got 121 wins and won the NCAA National Championship in 2001.
Munoz made a big switch from being a wrestler to a mixed martial artist. He debuted during the WEC 34 in 2008. Then, when he was chosen to be relocated to UFC, his first fight in UFC 96 was his first loss against Matt Hamill.
