Sara Snyder Obituary, Death – On May 16, 2023, Sara M. “Sally” Snyder, 85, of Pentwater, MI and Greenwood, IN, passed away. Josephine (Harstine) Mitten and George W. Mitten of Indianapolis welcomed her into the world on May 18, 1937. She went to IPS School 43, graduated from Shortridge High School in 1955, and became a Delta Gamma sorority member at Indiana University (Bloomington) in 1959. In 1959, Sara wed William F. Snyder, Jr.

Sara worked for a number of years as a legislative assistant in the Indiana General Assembly. The Indianapolis District Dental Society then hired her, and she went on to become Executive Director. The Indianapolis District Dental Society won the American Dental Association Component of the Year award under her direction. She started Dental Platforms, a continuing education organization specializing in dentistry, after retiring.

Sara attended Pentwater’s Centenary Methodist Church during the summer and Southport Presbyterian Church during the school year. She had previously been a member of the Indianapolis City Market board of directors. Sara was an active part of the Pentwater summer community and for a total of twenty-five years she and her husband held officer positions on the Oceana Beach Association Board of Directors.

She loved spending weeks at the family’s Pentwater property every summer, when her grandchildren came to enjoy the beach, sailing instruction, blueberry picking, and band performances. She delighted in all the social events that the summer community offered, including their weekly bridge sessions with her pals.

Her three children, Elizabeth Snyder Schmitt of Indianapolis, Catherine Snyder Keith of Indianapolis, and Jayne Snyder Bennett of Delaware, Ohio, survive her. Her grandchildren, Katherine Bennett, Stephanie Bennett Lindberg (Patrick), Claire Schmitt, Meredith Schmitt, and Jacob Keith (Abbey), as well as her sister Suzann Mitten Owen of Bloomington, IN, also survive her. Sara’s brother, G. Thomas Mitten, and her husband both passed away before her. The family would like to express their gratitude to Paradigm Hospice and Bickford of Greenwood Assisted Living and Memory Care for the wonderful care Sara received over the previous six years.
