Vanna White Will Only Stay on Wheel Of Fortune If She Gets Pat Sajaks Salary
Vanna White is still negotiating the terms of her contract to remain on Wheel of Fortune. But after not getting a raise for 18 years, it appears the television host is remaining steadfast in what she wants to receive in order to stay.
According to a new report from PEOPLE, Vanna is prepared to walk away if she gets anything less than what Pat Sajak was earning before he announced his retirement earlier this year.
Originally, it was reported that Vanna wanted at least 50% of Pat’s salary, but a source told PEOPLE she’s expecting much more.
"50 percent of Pat's salary is so outrageous that no one in their right mind could say that it’s fair," the insider explained. "The negotiation is asking for much more than 50 percent of his salary. It's asking for the same pay — if not more."
So far, Sony Pictures Television (which has produced Wheel of Fortune for decades) has declined to provide a comment.
Pat was reportedly making $15 million per year during recent seasons of the televised game show. But Vanna has apparently only been making a fraction of that, at $3 million.
In June, Pat revealed his plans to retire after 40 years of hosting the show.
"Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last," Pat revealed via Twitter. "It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)"
Ryan Seacrest has been announced as his replacement. While Seacrest’s salary is unconfirmed, it’s expected that his wage is comparable to what Pat was making.
For instance, Ryan was apparently making $12 million per season of American Idol in 2018.
It’s likely that Ryan would get a much higher starting salary than Vanna, despite being a newcomer to Wheel of Fortune. It’s speculated that this fact prompted Vanna to lawyer up in hopes of negotiating a raise. And after nearly two decades of the same salary on a hit TV show, who can blame her?
For now, negotiations continue to take place. But reports say Sony isn’t easily giving into her demands, and will only agree to a higher pay if they see it was “equitable.”
Vanna, however, it reportedly prepared to walk away if she doesn’t feel the outcome is fair. "She feels like it's a statement for all women,” one source told TMZ.
