Some designers refuse to dress celebrities. This can be for one of many reasons, including their body shape being different or their not being considered famous enough. Zendaya experienced this early in her career, and her stylist, Law Roach, and the Dune: Part Two actress remembered who was good to her and who wasn't.

Shows like Zapped and HBO's Euphoria, as well as blockbusters like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Dune, have made Zendaya a very rich woman.
Zendaya is one of the hottest talents now, and she is celebrated for her great style. Law Roach can be partly credited with this, and in a recent interview with The Cutting Room Floor, he recalled how some of the most prestigious fashion houses refused to work with Zendaya.
Who Didn't Want To Style Zendaya?
Law Roach did not hold back in his interview with The Cutting Room Floor (via People). "I would write the big five. I would write Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, Dior, and they would all say, 'No, try again next year. She's too green,'" Roach recalled.
What was remarkable is the actress was on the covers of big magazines but was turned down by these brands. Roach claims he still has "all the receipts," meaning that he is able to prove what they did. "By the time she had got to American Vogue, she still had never wore any of those designers — she still hasn't," he said. He noted that she has worn the clothes for photo shoots but has not been dressed by the designers, which he calls the "big five."
"In an editorial, yes. But on a red carpet, she still has never worn Dior on a carpet. She still has never worn Chanel on a carpet. She has still never worn Gucci on a carpet. Any press, any appearance, never," Roach said. "The first time she wore Valentino in public is when she had a contract."
What Designers Does Zendaya Like?
Zendaya and Law Roach have stayed loyal to those who recognized her early on. When she attended the Met Gala 2024, she did not wear Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Dior, or Valentino. Instead, she stepped out in Maison Margiela's John Galliano (the theme this year was Celebrating Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion with a dress code of The Garden of Time). They also have not forgotten how the "big five" treated her. "So when I said, 'If you say no, it'll be a no forever,' that rang true for a long, long time," Roach stated in his interview.

Fans loved the idea of Tom Holland and Zendaya together even when they denied they were a couple.
Zendaya won the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Fashion Icon award in 2021 and is often named on the best-dressed list by multiple publications. For the actress, clothes serve a bigger purpose than covering your body. "Clothes sometimes are very emotional, so I get to embody these different facets — maybe they’re of myself, or maybe they're alter egos. But I get to meet these different women through clothes," she told InStyle.
In the same interview, she revealed that when she attended her first film premiere as a teenager, she wore clothing from Target. She added, "And I thought I was fly. I felt cool. To this day, I think that's really all that matters. Then you know you're doing the right thing."
